Exciting changes are on the horizon for Angel Mounds State Historic Site, with the opening of new exhibits in November 2024. This $6.5 million transformation will bring the rich history of the Native American people who lived on this land to life, thanks to a collaborative effort with modern Native American nations and the IU Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

Angel Mounds, a National Historic Landmark, was home to the Mississippian people between A.D. 1000 and 1450 and stands as one of the best-preserved prehistoric Native American sites in the U.S. The new exhibits will highlight their complex society and cultural traditions, offering visitors a more in-depth and authentic understanding of their legacy.

While the interpretive center undergoes its transformation, the outdoor spaces remain open at reduced admission rates, and additional outdoor programming will keep visitors engaged with the site’s history. The renovation will make Angel Mounds a must-see destination for both locals and visitors, further enhancing its cultural significance and drawing new audiences to the region.

Mark your calendars for November 2024 and be among the first to explore the new exhibits that will transform the way we connect with our shared past!
